Las Leñas hosted men’s downhill races on the Alpine Skiing World Cup in 1986 and 1987, women’s downhill and super-G in 1990, and the only Winter Pan American Games, also in 1990.
The village
Because it was purpose-built, everything is on site: hotels that are mostly upscale, apartment hotels and simpler sleep houses; a small shopping centre with a bank, ski shops, chocolate and souvenir shops and a supermarket; coffee houses, restaurants and night clubs. The Piscis Hotel houses what Wikipedia calls the highest casino by elevation in the world. There is a ski and snowboard school for all ages and childcare facilities, and the centre stays open in the southern summer for mountain biking, horse riding and climbing.
