Vertical on a grand scale

Tux’s headline figure is its vertical. The lifts start at 1,500 m and the top station sits at 3,250 m, a span of 1,750 m from bottom to top. That top elevation is far above the threshold at which altitude alone helps snow reliability, and it is why Tux is tagged as snow-sure in our data: when lower resorts are waiting for a cold front, the upper slopes here are the ones most likely to be holding snow.

The slopes

Our data records 60 km of pistes served by 21 lifts, a comfortable ratio that points to a network which moves people efficiently. There is no difficulty breakdown in our figures, but the resort’s tagged features tell a story: alongside snow reliability, Tux is noted for off-piste skiing and for traditional charm. That combination suggests a place that rewards competent skiers who want to explore beyond the marked runs, set in a village that has kept its character rather than being built from scratch for tourism. No terrain parks are recorded in our data.

The Zillertal connection

Tux is listed in our data under the Zillertal ski area, so the local 60 km is one part of a wider valley of skiing. Whether a single lift pass covers neighbouring resorts in the valley depends on the ticket you buy, so check the current terms before assuming the whole valley is included. On its own, Tux offers a compact but very tall ski area, and 1,750 m of vertical means a top-to-bottom descent, when the whole mountain is open, is a serious test of the legs.

Practical

The season in our data runs from December to April, and with a 3,250 m top station the later weeks of that window are more dependable here than at lower resorts. We do not currently hold airport or website data for Tux, so plan the journey via the nearest Austrian gateway and confirm details locally.
