From Sauze the lifts start at around 1,509 m and the area’s highest point reaches 2,823 m, so there is close to 1,300 m of vertical to play with. That top height is a real advantage: the upper slopes hold snow well through the December to April season, while the lower runs back into Sauze itself are more variable, especially early and late in the winter.
The scale of the area is what makes Sauze suit almost everyone. Intermediates can cover new ground every day, working across towards Sestriere or over the border to Montgenevre and back, while beginners have plenty of room without ever needing to leave the local sector. The lift system is a modern one, and with 71 lifts spread across 400 km of piste, capacity is comfortable even in busy weeks. Sauze d’Oulx also hosted the freestyle skiing events of the 2006 Winter Olympics, a competition pedigree few Italian towns of its size can claim.
