Munakas is the ski centre on Väike-Munamägi, a 207 m hill about a minute’s drive from Otepää. It has Estonia’s only four-seat chairlift, a vertical drop of 73 m (the most in the region, according to the centre) and runs the centre compares to Alpine red and black grades. It feels sporty, with short but steep laps and a strong race-training and ski-school culture. Beginners have a gentle learning slope with a conveyor lift.
The centre shares its ticket with Kuutsemäe, 12 km away. Together the two advertise 12 floodlit slopes, 10 lifts and two snow parks. That is small by any Alpine standard, but it is the biggest downhill offer in the Baltics. Munakas is open in the evenings, with Friday late sessions in peak season, and the modern base building has a restaurant, rental shop and sauna. It suits weekend and evening skiing from Tartu, or a winter trip to Otepää combined with cross-country skiing.
