Innsbruck airport is the only major European airport that sits in the middle of the ski resorts rather than at the edge of them. In our data, 88 resorts lie within 250 km of the runway. The closest is Seefeld, 14 km away; ten resorts are within 50 km, including the glaciers at Hintertux and Sölden; and the biggest in range is Ski Arlberg, 305 km of slopes about 83 km to the west. This guide ranks the 20 nearest by straight-line distance and says which to choose.

Source: Intski ranking of ski resorts near Innsbruck airport, computed from the resort database and checked 14 September 2026. The full list of 88 is on the ranking page. Slope kilometres for linked areas (Zillertal Arena, SkiWelt) are the area total, not the single village.
Innsbruck’s own city ski areas, the Nordkette, Patscherkofel, Axamer Lizum and Kühtai, are not yet in our database, so they do not appear in the ranking. They are all under an hour from the airport and we are adding them.
Within 50 km: the day-trip belt
Ten resorts sit within 50 km of the runway, which in road terms means 30 to 75 minutes. They fall into three groups.
Small and close. Seefeld at 14 km has 37 km of slopes on 11 lifts and a top station at 2,064 m, and is better known for cross-country skiing; it hosted the Nordic events of two Winter Olympics. Zugspitze (20 km, 10 lifts) and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (40 km, 16 lifts) are across the German border and share a town. Zugspitze’s top at 2,720 m is on Germany’s highest mountain and it opens in November.
Glaciers. Hintertux (33 km) and Sölden (42 km) are the two highest resorts in range, both with top stations at 3,250 m. Hintertux is the only ski area in Austria open 365 days a year. Sölden has 144 km of slopes, 52% of them easy, and its adult day pass at €87 is the most expensive in Austria in our lift pass index. Obergurgl-Hochgurgl (49 km, top 3,080 m) sits further up the same Ötztal valley and is one of the most snow-sure non-glacier resorts in the Alps. Our guide to why altitude matters for snow explains what those top elevations buy you in November and April.
The Zillertal. Mayrhofen (41 km) has 142 km of slopes on 58 lifts, one lift per 2.4 km of piste, and 31% easy terrain. Zell am Ziller and Gerlos (41 and 50 km) share the 150 km Zillertal Arena on 52 lifts. All three are within an hour of the airport by road and take the same regional transfer. We compare the valley’s main town with its Salzburg rival in Mayrhofen vs Saalbach.
50 to 85 km: where the big areas are
The trade-off is simple: the further from the airport, the more skiing. Between 60 and 85 km lie the four biggest ski areas in range.
- Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis (61 km): 214 km on 68 lifts, top 2,820 m. High, sunny and built for families.
- SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental (67 to 80 km): 284 km on 90 lifts, entered from Westendorf, Söll, Scheffau, Ellmau or Going. The most lifts of any area in range, but a top station of only 1,957 m, so check the base depth early and late in the season.
- Ski Arlberg (about 83 km): 305 km on 88 lifts, top 2,811 m, the biggest ski area in Austria in our data. St. Anton is the expert end of it, with an off-piste flag and 51 km of black pistes; Lech Zürs is the quieter, pricier end. Adult day pass €85 for 2026/27.
- Silvretta Arena (84 km): Ischgl and Samnaun in Switzerland, 239 km on 45 lifts, top 2,872 m, a season from November to May and 60% intermediate terrain. Day pass €79 (2025/26 price; the new one is due in the autumn).
For a week’s holiday rather than a day trip, these four are where most skiers flying into Innsbruck should be looking. We compare the two western giants in St. Anton vs Ischgl.
Getting from Innsbruck airport to the resorts
The airport is 4 km from Innsbruck’s main railway station, and Tyrol’s rail and bus network reaches most of the resorts above. Rough road times, which you should treat as a guide rather than a promise in winter: Seefeld 30 minutes, Mayrhofen and Sölden about an hour, Serfaus 75 minutes, St. Anton and Ischgl 75 to 90 minutes, the SkiWelt villages 60 to 80 minutes. The Innsbruck airport site lists the current transfer and bus options. Shared transfers to the Arlberg and Paznaun are the norm; a hire car is worth it for the Zillertal and the SkiWelt, where you may want to move between villages.
If Innsbruck flights are expensive, Munich or Salzburg are the alternatives. Our guide to ski resorts near Salzburg covers the Skicircus, Ski Amadé and Zell am See-Kaprun, and the SkiWelt is roughly the same distance from both Austrian airports. Our guide to resorts closest to Munich, Zurich, Geneva and Milan covers it, and the Munich airport ranking lists 76 resorts within 250 km, many of them the same ones, and our Munich airport guide ranks the 20 closest. Zurich is the other airport for the Arlberg; see our Zurich airport guide.
Which resort near Innsbruck should you choose

- Intermediates who want mileage: Ischgl (143 km of red runs) or the SkiWelt.
- Experts: St. Anton, with the Arlberg’s off-piste flag and 51 km of black pistes.
