Getting from Zurich airport to the resorts
Zurich airport has a mainline station under the terminal, and for most resorts in this list the train beats the car. Direct intercity trains reach Chur in about 75 minutes, with connections to Laax (bus, 30 minutes), Arosa (the Arosa railway, 60 minutes), Lenzerheide (bus, 40 minutes) and Davos and Klosters (the Rhaetian Railway, 60 to 90 minutes). Engelberg is about 1 hour 45 via Lucerne, Grindelwald and Wengen 2 hours 30 via Interlaken, Andermatt about 2 hours via Göschenen, Disentis 2 hours 15 via Chur. Rough road times: Engelberg 75 minutes, Laax 1 hour 45, Davos and Lenzerheide 2 hours, Grindelwald 2 hours, Andermatt 1 hour 45, Lech 2 hours 15. The Swiss Travel Pass and the half-fare card cut rail costs substantially for a week; timetables are on SBB and airport information on Zurich Airport.
Zurich is also 88 km from the first big Austrian areas. If the prices in the table are the deciding factor, our Innsbruck and Munich guides list Austrian resorts of the same size at €72 to €83, and Geneva reaches the French Alps at €55 to €73, and Milan is the airport for the Valais from the south.
